The Sussex Guild is delighted to be exhibiting again at Arundel Castle in the Summer of 2008.

Arundel Castle has the unusual distinction of being both an ancient castle and a stately home. Set high on a hill in West Sussex, this great castle commands the surrounding landscape with magnificent views across the South Downs and the River Arun. Built at the end of the 11th century, it has been the family home of the Dukes of Norfolk and their ancestors for over 850 years. The interior has been perfectly preserved and is enhanced by the artworks of such great artists as Gainsborough, Van Dyke, Canaletto and many others. The grounds, too, are magnificent to stroll in – there is a large walled garden, a restored kitchen garden complete with renovated Victorian glasshouses, and the Fitzalan Chapel Garden and the Rose Garden are both worth a visit.

The castle is central to the town – unmissable - and sits beside the tidal River Arun along which runs a footpath, perfect for a summer stroll. There is also a magnificent and commanding cathedral right at the top of the hill. Arundel itself is a charming place with a number of interesting independent shops and galleries to visit. There are some good café bars and restaurants offering excellent refreshments. The town has a long association with the arts, and in fact hosts its own Arts Festival in August.

The Sussex Guild Show will be sited in a marquee on the lower lawns of the Castle. This will afford easy access and there is ample parking in the vicinity of the castle. As usual, we hope to put on a superb show for the public, with quite a number of new members showing for the first time. We will have, amongst others, our usual excellent selection of jewellers, ceramicists and furniture makers etc, all of whom produce art and craftwork of the highest standard. The work shown at our exhibitions is all executed by the members themselves.

We are proud to say that the Sussex Guild shows some of the best craft work currently produced by British Craftsmen.
