CONTEMPORARY CRAFT SHOW
Michelham PrioryUpper Dicker, near Hailsham, East Sussex BN27 3QS
Thursday 4th - Sunday 7th August 2011
10.30am – 5.30pm
Nestling deep in the Sussex countryside, historic Michelham Priory is surrounded by England's longest medieval moat. Originally founded by Augustinian canons it became a gentleman’s residence in Tudor times and later a working farm. Tour the Priory to find out more about its fascinating history. Explore the beautiful gardens, set with contemporary sculptures, where the archaeology of the monastic foundation can be clearly seen. Visit the Gatehouse and one of the countries oldest working watermills. Near the picnic area is the Iron Age Centre. Lunches and teas are served in the licensed restaurant and there may be a barbeque too.
Since it was formed over forty years ago the Sussex Guild have exhibited at Michelham Priory. Selected guest exhibitors will join Guild members; the work will be sited in and around the Elizabethan Great Barn and in marquees in the grounds. The unique thing about this Sussex Guild show is that together with the wide range of beautiful craftwork displayed many of the designer makers will be demonstrating their skills. There will be a blacksmith's forge, a potter at his wheel, woodturning, stone carving and many more crafts demonstrated.
Once again, the storyteller will be present with free entertainment for children of all ages.
The site is almost completely level so access is relatively easy for wheelchairs or those with mobility problems. Admission to the Sussex Guild’s Contemporary Craft Show, the Priory and parking is included in your ticket.
Join us once again at Michelham; it will be a great day out for the whole family.
