CRAFTS IN ACTION
Michelham Priory, Upper Dicker, Nr Hailsham, East Sussex BN27 3QSAugust 7th – 10th 2008
10.30am – 5.30pm
The Sussex Guild's CRAFTS IN ACTION
Nestling deep in the Sussex countryside, Michelham Priory offers you a day for all the family. Surrounded by England’s longest water-filled medieval moat, Michelham Priory dates back to 1229. It belonged to Augustinian canons until its dissolution in 1537. The house then underwent various changes, including the addition of the Tudor wing, now with artefacts and furniture on display.
The seven acres of gardens include an orchard, herbaceous borders and a mixture of formal and informal gardens. There are contemporary sculptures amongst the planting and an abundance of wildlife.
The watermill is one of England's oldest working mills, recorded in 1255, restored in the 1990’s and still producing flour!
The Sussex Guild "Crafts in Action" has been at Michelham Priory for many years. The show is sited in the Elizabethan Great Barn and in small marquees along the drive and behind the barn. There will be a wide range of beautiful craftwork on display and for sale from Guild members and selected guest exhibitors. There will also be craft demonstrations including pottery and a working forge. Dave Arthur, the storyteller will be present, free entertainment for children and adults! As usual there will be the popular Children's Craft Workshops, where for £1 per session, children can take part in a variety of crafts, including clay modelling and spinning wool.
Enjoy a meal in the licensed restaurant or a barbeque (weather permitting). Or eat "al fresco" in the Picnic Area near the Play Area and the Iron Age Centre (reconstructed round houses).
"Crafts in Action" provides a fantastic day out for all the family.
