The designer/makers of The Sussex Guild are delighted to have opened their own Guild shop in the lovely county town of Lewes.

Lewes has long been a town associated with the arts, but perhaps the most well-known connection was with the Bloomsbury Group, who were based a short distance outside the town at Charleston Farmhouse. The main players in the group were the innovative writer Virginia Woolf and her sister Vanessa Bell, the painter. Around them was a coterie of famous associates who were highly influential on the arts scene of the early 20th century, particularly Roger Fry who was one of the original champions of Post-Impressionist art in this country.

Lewes is equally famous for another resident – Anne of Cleves, one of the six wives of Henry the Eighth. Her lovely house is near to our gallery and is open to the public.

Lewes is, in so many ways, a marvellous town, but we in the Guild believe that we have further enhanced it by opening our new shop/gallery in historic Southover Grange, a lovely 17th century building beside beautiful gardens. In the summer it is a delight to sit out under the old mulberry tree or savour the heady scent of the magnificent magnolia. Adjacent to the gallery there is a very good refreshments kiosk which is open during the summer months and which provides an excellent selection of sandwiches, drinks and delicious cakes.

The Guild shop is open every day from 10am – 5pm.

There is metered parking on the road and the car park at Lewes Railway station is just a short walk away.

The excellent craftwork on display and for sale includes: Jewellery, Furniture, Printmaking, Ceramics, Metalwork, Letter-cutting, Batik and Textile Arts.
